A multi-award winning engineer, mixer, producer, editor, and educator Wolpert has worked with some of the biggest names in today's music industry, in addition to a successful career working in film and television. Wolpert’s most recent award is the Recording Engineer of the Year Juno Award for Holly Cole’s “Shade”. That makes three awards in this category as well one for co-producing Loreena McKennitt ‘s THE MASK AND MIRROR. He has engineered eight other albums and toured extensively with the incredibly successful and talented Ms. McKennitt, winning 3M Visionary Awards for THE VISIT and THE MASK AND MIRROR along the way. He has also done The Cowboy Junkies last several releases including EARLY 21ST CENTURY BLUES, Anne Murray’s new releases DUETS: FRIENDS AND LEGENDS featuring Sarah Brightman, Nelly Furtado and k.d. Lang and produced by Phil Ramone as well as I’LL BE SEEING YOU, Jimmy Webb's 10 EASY PIECES and most recently produced, engineered and mixed the debut release for The Canadian Tenors. He also recorded, mixed and edited the soundtrack to BLUES BROTHERS 2000 for Paul Shaffer, which included performances by James Brown, Wilson Pickett, Junior Wells, Lonnie Brooks, Johnny Lang and Aretha's re-recording of R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Recently he has completed Natalie MacMaster’s In My Hands featuring Allison Kraus, Kris Kristofferson's THE AUSTIN SESSIONS, The Misfits for George Romero’s film Bruiser, and a new collection by legendary songwriter Barry Mann with guest appearances by Carole King, Bryan Adams, Daryl Hall, Deana Carter and many others. Current nominations include the Gemini Award for Best Sound for Carol Welsman’s LANGUAGE OF LOVE featuring Herbie Hancock, Oscar Castro-Neves and Brazilian superstar Djavan, The Maple Leaf Blues Awards nomination for Producer of the Year for Carlos del Junco’s BLUES MONGREL as well as The Juno Award for Engineer of the year for Manteca’s latest release Onward. Recently released is the epic work CONStaNTiNOPLE by Christos Hatsis featuring The Gryphon Trio as well as the 2010 Juno CLASSICAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR: SOLO OR CHAMBER ENSEMBLE Winner Joel Quarrington: Garden Scene. His latest production is the next CD from The Canadian Tenors featuring Sarah McLachlan as well as tracks for The Winter Olympic Opening Ceremonies in Vancouver, BC. Wolpert's other work in film includes Mary Harron’s American Psycho, BEING JULIA for Serendipity, Chris Veer Weil’s CLETIS TOUT, Saul Rubinek's much acclaimed BLEACHER BUMS, JERRY AND TOM and CLUBLAND, Paramount's FRIDAY THE 13TH parts 5 & 6, INTIMATE RELATIONS for Fox Searchlight, JADE for Universal, Eugene O'Neil's classic, LONG DAY'S JOURNEY INTO NIGHT for Rhombus and Jeremy Podeswa’s THE FIVE SENSES for Atlantis/Alliance and THE COMEBACK SEASON for Endgame/Myriad Next in line is the film GOOBY for Coneybear Productions and IRON ROAD for CCI Entertainment. In television, Wolpert's credits include such movies as the Emmy award-winning WILLIAM FAULKNER'S OLD MAN, REDWOOD CURTAIN, BRUSH WITH FATE, ATTICUS and PLAINSONG for Hallmark Hall of Fame. Other works include YOU KNOW MY NAME for Turner and PRISONER OF ZENDA for Showtime, the series BEVERLY HILLS 90210, FOREVER KNIGHT and FRIDAY THE 13TH and the mini-series JOAN OF ARC, The AUDREY HEPBURN STORY and HAVEN which received an Emmy nomination for Best Dramatic Score. Recently He mixed the live music broadcast for the JUNO AWARDS and THE CANADIAN SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME. Recently he mixed The Canadian Tenors live on The Dr Phil Show and Oprah where Celine Dion joined them. Soon to be released is the documentary on theatre director Des McAnuff called A Life In Stages. Many opportunities to travel have arisen in Wolpert’s career. Recently he has been to Granada Spain, Beijing China, Rio De Janeiro Brazil, Beirut Lebanon, Budapest Hungary, Taormina Italy, Zagreb Croatia and several cities in Greece. His exploits have ranged from recording at the renowned Mosfilm complex in Moscow to a recent expedition through the amphitheatres of the Mediterranean carrying a complete 48 track recording system in two suitcases. This last exploit was documented in the Oct 09 issue of MIX Magazine. He recently returned from a 2 week working trip to Havana, Cuba where he recorded 8 top recording artists including Manolito Simonet. Always on the cutting edge of technology, Wolpert has been mixing in various surround formats for years. His recent credits include 5.1 mixes for the LONG JOURNEY HOME DVD by The Cowboy Junkies, the 6.1 mix for the IMAX SPACE STATION movie, the EMI DVD disc LUNCH AT ALLAN’S featuring Ian Thomas, Mark Jordan, Cindy Church and Murray McLaughlin, the DVD-Audio version of Anne Murray’s I’LL BE SEEING YOU the NO JOURNEY’S END and NIGHTS AT THE ALHAMBRA DVD for Loreena McKennitt, the DVD of Peter Buffet’s SPIRIT SEVENTH FIRE and PUBLICITY STUNT for hip hop master K-OS. Soon to be released is the Surround Sound version of Amin Bhatia’s VIRTUALITY. Currently in production is the next Loreena McKennitt DVD titled A MOVABLE MUSICAL FEAST, the concert DVD of Lenny Solomon’s BOWFIRE and the tribute to legendary fiddler OLIVER SCHROER. Constantly involved in the advancement of sound recording and mixing Wolpert recent educational endeavors include becoming a Professor at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. Recently he was co-author of the syllabus for the Bachelor of Contemporary Music Degree in Music Production and co-designed the Recording Studios for Humber Applied University in Toronto, Canada. He continues to teach Music Mixing for the Master of Music in Sound Recording program at McGill University in Montreal, is a guest lecturer at the Banff Centre for the Arts and has recently joined the advisory panel of Durham College in Ontario. A graduate of Concordia University in Montreal (BFA Studio Music), Wolpert went on to earn his Masters of Music Degree in Sound Recording (Tonmeister) from McGill University in 1982. Upon graduation, He started as a system tech and mixer at PA Plus in Toronto and then joined Inception Sound where during his 11 years there, he helped build it from one eight-track studio into two 48-track studios. He then became the chief engineer at McClear Digital Recording and Post Production Studios, a five-studio multi-format recording and mixing facility. Currently he is the owner and chief engineer of Desert Fish Studios, located in downtown Toronto, which was custom designed by Jeff and opened in 2012. Known for his mastery of acoustic recording and intricate mixing, Wolpert is also recognized for his vast technical and computer knowledge.
