Abscess was a hardcore punk-influenced death metal band from Oakland, California. The band was formed in June 1994 by Chris Reifert and Danny Coralles, both former members of Autopsy. Although the lyrics remain rooted in the themes of horror and gore, Abscess has a more ‘tongue-in-cheek’ approach to death metal compared with Autopsy.
