Artist Biography
Available in: gb icon
Seth Taylor began his love with electronic music began when the first wave of Hip Hop hit the shores of Australia back in 1984. Blessed to have two older sisters who's music tastes didn't strive much passed Wham and Madonna, Seth decided to search for new sounds and found it in a track that sampled one of his favourite cartoons at the time Inspector Gadget, this track would change Seth's life forever.
"The Show" by Doug E Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew was first played to Seth when long time family friends returned from London with a copy of this track on 7". This open the doors to a new an exciting world for the 10 year old.
Seth began holding Block parties (whilst still in Primary School) and Break Dancing and put exhibitions in local shopping centres. But as the wave of culture swung to more Gansta style Hip Hop, so did Seth. Getting totally into East Side Hip Hop. Artists such as KRS ONE, Run DMC and Public Enemy, all became records that he and his schoolmates were buying. Record shops such as Gaslight and Missing Link were among regular trips to the city on a Saturday morning.
Other influences that help shape Seth's career, came when Seth changed Secondary Schools in 1991. Meeting people that were old school Gansta from the outer east of Melbourne finding that they had similar tastes in music, Seth was introduced to the Rear of the Palace Pure 91. Although not into the scene as much as others were at the time, the seed had been planted.
As time went on dreaming of how awesome it would be to be that DJ rocking the crowd, Seth went out like many and bought himself a set of Turntables and bought lots of records.
Playing along side top Melbourne DJ's such as Jeff Tyler, Will E Tell, Scott Alert, Seth's first gig (under the name of DJ RUBY) was at Climax in 1994. With much thanks to Scott Alert for letting Seth play. Seth was one of the first to bring back the Old School sound. Playing double copies of Total Confusion and scratching Public Enemy.
Seth has spun tunes along side international greats as Dr Motte, Lenny Dee and has played at Melbourne's favourite Belfast and Acid Reign parties. Seth has been putting on smaller but very rocking parties under the title of Newpath and Relax during 2002. From 2002 - 2005 Seth play most Belfast parties and notably was given the honor to play directly after international old skool hero CJ Bolland to a packed crowd of 3000 old skool fans. Needless to say among other internationals such as Oliver Lieb Dave Angle and northern pioneer DJ Welly.
In 2007 had a new concept and wanted to bring the original old skool crew back to a place where they felt like it was their home again the place they help shape for the future, and ARM in ARM was born. Now after 6 extremely emotional events its repretation as grown to be known as the most authentic old skool vibe melbourne as to offer, and in 2012 will take Seth to UK to play in the first ever Old Skool event in front 20000 original ravers with over 100 acts from detroit chicago Italy belgium.
