The group became one of the influential acts in contemporary Christian music, combining modern worship with alternative rock, pop, folk, and electronic elements. Their music was characterized by experimental arrangements, memorable melodies, and spiritually inspired lyrics.
The band originated at University Baptist Church in Waco, where singer and guitarist David Crowder, together with pastor Chris Seay, developed a contemporary approach to Christian worship music. These musical activities eventually evolved into an established band that gained recognition beyond Texas.
Following several independent releases, the group released Can You Hear Us? in 2002, reaching a wider audience. The albums Illuminate (2003) and A Collision (or 3+4=7) (2005) followed, establishing the band's reputation for innovative worship music that combined traditional religious themes with contemporary rock arrangements.
With Remedy (2007), the band reached another milestone in its career. Featuring songs such as Everything Glorious, Never Let Go, and Remedy, the album blended powerful guitar-driven rock with electronic textures and quieter, atmospheric passages. It received a Grammy Award nomination and remains one of the group's best-known recordings.
The album Church Music (2009) expanded the band's musical approach through prominent electronic and experimental elements. Songs such as How He Loves and Oh, Happiness demonstrated their ability to combine modern pop production with Christian worship music.
In 2011, David Crowder Band announced its disbandment. Their final studio album, Give Us Rest or (A Requiem Mass in C ), was released in 2012, combining rock, folk, bluegrass, and electronic music into an ambitious farewell recording. David Crowder subsequently continued his career as a solo artist under the name Crowder.
