About a year ago, I wanted to make a Christmas album something you could listen to that would remind you of the time of year you’re in. Around five years ago, I actually hated Christmas. It seemed like a time when only companies benefited, and although that’s still partly true, after a pandemic, illnesses, accidents, and many other things that have happened, I realized that I won’t have my family forever. It’s an obvious truth, but until you lose a loved one, you don’t realize how valuable and fragile they are.
That’s why I wanted to create something that, regardless of time, I could look back on especially during a season when my family is usually together. I know there are people close to me who are no longer in this world, and because of that, I won’t be able to wish them a Merry Christmas or a Happy New Year. I want to have something to remember the people who are still here with me.
I know it’s normal to argue and not always get along with others, but if you can sit down on Christmas or New Year’s and peacefully have dinner with the person you argued with, do it. It might be the last year you’ll have the chance to do so. Time forgives no one, and during times like these, we feel the weight of the words we once said more deeply.
