In 1967, Wilson "The Wicked" Pickett was honored with his first greatest hits collection by our good friends at Atlantic Records simply titled The Best Of Wilson Pickett. This stunning array of his hit singles, most of them backed by Booker T. and The M. G.'s, dominated the upper rungs of the soul and pop charts for over a year, truly illustrates in sound and funk how important his force was and still is over four decades since!
The man was important in bridging all types of rhythm and blues music to a much wider audience, churning out not only soul smashes but pop masterpieces. Most of his biggest hits have been covered by contemporaries like The Rascals, Solomon Burke, Jackie Wilson, The Supremes, B. B. King, Mitch Ryder, Bryan Ferry, just to name a few...
