Album DescriptionAvailable in:
During their move from primarily sampled work to nearly wholly originally composed, a release was stuck in between the half-and-half explorations of '私を覚えていますか' and 'My Last Whispers Are My Worst Goodbyes', a collection of varied tracks and experimentations that paved the way for this change. This behind the scenes look was released as a collection of eight tracks, varying in sounds and approaches from the artist as they attempted to perfect this style.
With this re-release of their work, we have been given four additional tracks to work with from the Machina Pensant vaults, which compliment the original release well and give more insight to the production style and tendencies of their work at the time.
Deeply atmospheric, yet approachable at the same time, Pensant's style mixed influences from styles and artists across the board, including chillwave, lounge, instrumental hip hop, and trip hop in order to make something completely unique out of the emerging sound known as "Barber Beats", flipping the script by joining a small amount of artists who were dedicated to pushing the envelope by questioning what it would sound like built from the ground up, rather than entirely working with samples.
The result is something that speaks for itself, especially on the newest works that this artist has produced. In between each major release, however, is one of these snapshots that allows us as listeners to truly get into the mind of the artist and understand their process. 'Fragments' delivers excellently in this regard, with the bonus tracks focusing more heavily on influences from jaunty, almost playful implementations of chords from a piano rather than synths, which was expanded upon years later with one of the artist's newer releases, 'Renouvellement Blues'.
