Matt ventures into new ground with his new album Catch & Release, cowriting many of the songs with other songwriters, working in different countries and trying new things in the studio. The result is a truly lovely album that showcases his talents both as singer and as songwriter. I see not one single filler track in the album. Every song displays lyrical depth and sensitivity as well as musical ingenuity. I am not beyond listening to this album all day long, as there is enough variety--for example between tunes like Catch & Release or Tear It Up, with their upbeat rhythm and mood; and something darker, more melancholy, like One Last Time or State of Things; to the truly optimistic The Higher Ground; and the refreshingly cliché free and heart felt You Can Come Back Home--to keep you constantly engaged. Musical styles encompass Jazzy to Pop, yet the album hangs together very well.
