Let There Be Rock est le 4e album d'AC/DC sorti en mars 1977 en Australie et le 23 juin 1977 sous une autre version dans le reste du monde.
La version internationale de l'album a été remastérisée en 2003. La version australienne n'est quant à elle plus commercialisée.
Comme le précise Angus, le groupe voulait un album « plein de guitares ».
La légende veut que, durant l'enregistrement, l'un des amplis d'Angus ait pris feu, et que George Young lui demanda de continuer à jouer. Certains fans prétendent qu'on peut entendre les grésillements de cet ampli en feu en écoutant Whole Lotta Rosie.
L'album est le premier réel succès du groupe en Europe4.
Comme d'habitude, l'Australie a droit à une pochette différente de l'Europe. La pochette de la version australienne est plus sobre, avec un fond noir, et un gros plan sur une guitare.
Concernant le contenu, il n'y a au départ pas de changement ; c'est la première fois pour AC/DC. Cependant, lors de la réédition de la version européenne (prise en charge par des américains), Crabsody in Blue a été remplacée par une version courte de Problem Child, une chanson de Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap, album qui n'était pas encore sorti aux États-Unis à l'époque. La raison donnée de ce remplacement est que les paroles de la chanson sont "trop osées".
Crabsody in Blue est présente dans le coffret Backtracks, sorti en 2009.

Let There Be Rock, the fourth AC/DC album -- and first to see simultaneous international release -- is as lean and mean as the original lineup ever got. Shaved down to the bone -- there are only eight tracks, giving this a lethal efficiency even with a couple of meandering jams -- this is a high-voltage, brutal record, filled with "Bad Boy Boogie." It has a bit of a bluesier edge than other AC/DC records, but this is truly the sound of the band reaching its peak. There's the near majesty of "Let There Be Rock," there's Bon Scott acknowledging with a wink that "Hell Ain't a Bad Place to Be," and then there's the monumental "Whole Lotta Rosie." Which gets down to a key thing about AC/DC. If Led Zeppelin were celebrating a "Whole Lotta Love," AC/DC got down to the grimy details in their leering tribute to the joys of sex with a plus-sized woman. And that's AC/DC's allure in a nutshell -- it's sweaty, dirty, nasty rock, music that is played to the last call and beyond, and they've rarely done that kind of rock better than they did here.
