I Created Disco is the debut album by Scottish recording artist Calvin Harris. It was released in the United Kingdom on 18 June 2007 by Fly Eye Records and Columbia Records, preceded by the singles "Acceptable in the 80s" and "The Girls", which reached numbers ten and three on the UK Singles Chart, respectively. The album debuted and peaked at number eight on the UK Albums Chart for the week of 24 June 2007, with first-week sales of 14,000 copies. On 23 May 2008, it was certified gold by the British Phonographic Industry for shipments in excess of 100,000 copies.
Writing and recording for I Created Disco started in 2006 when Harris moved back to his hometown of Dumfries, Scotland after living in London for two years. All recording and producing for the album took place on an Amiga computer with audio tracker OctaMED in Harris's home studio, called Calvinharrisbeats Studio. All fourteen tracks on the album were written, produced and performed solely by Harris.

On I Created Disco Calvin Harris has exquisitely tailored a calm, considered rumination on life’s great upheavals inspired by the works of great literary talents like Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky and Chehkov. In a subtle, poignant and trenchant work he toys with themes that”¦blah, blah, blah.
Scottish irony loon and post-modern blockrocker Calvin Harris doesn’t do anything as effete and pointless as depth, but then, why should he? Depth and dance music, post-James Brown, are almost always mutually exclusive.
Dance music should make you want to dance, possibly sing, and jump around with your friends and loved ones. That is why it exists. Great dance music can be more then a whopping great mass of spine-cracking beats with a few hooks and a colossal bassline but those are its only essential components.
Every tune-crazy raver was sucked by the kitsch thrills of ''Acceptable In The 80s'', a whopping floorfiller with three layers of catchy synth riffs, and a bassline so mighty it’d turn Leonard Cohen into a junglist.
That legendary, retro-as-legwarmers hit appears here and it has plenty of booming compadres. There’s the dirty booty electro of ‘'Vegas'’, the growling LCD Soundsystem low-end of ‘'Merrymaking In My Place'’ and ‘'Colours'’, which steals from Visage’s ‘Fade To Grey’ on its chorus motif. Elsewhere the fingerprints of Daft Punk’s Discovery album and Giorgio Moroder’s sweaty palms are all over this debut offering.
It helps that Calvin has a sense of humour. After all it’s unlikely he actually created disco, considering it was conceived a good few years before he was. And those lyrics: 'I’ll do things for you/if you were born in the ‘80s.' Nice one, Calv’. Wanna come round and mow the lawn?
This LP really only has one glitterball of an idea, but it’s an idea put to great use. If you’re getting ready for a big night out or just on one (if you see what I mean), you’ll whoop with joy when the Scot comes through the speakers.
So what if the chav-disco here is as camp as Kylie? Calv’s helping produce her next record. Lucky, lucky, lucky for some.
