Daniel Goyone is a pianist and composer of French jazz, born in Grasse in 1953.
He began his career as a jazz pianist (concerts and recordings alongside Andre Ceccarelli, Bunny Brunel, Chick Corea). Then he expanded his practice to other musical streams: Cuban music, Brazilian music, African music and Indian music through a long collaboration with the Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu).
Since the early 80's, his work has focused on his activity as a composer. This, while relying in part on the language of Jazz, gives it extensions far beyond the usual practice: - use, in musical composition and musical improvisation, a personal rhythmic language , and unusual meters; - deepening of the study of the relation between modes and harmonies, in a synthetic conception which includes tonality, modality and chromaticism.
The maturation of this work on the composition allows him to write for various formations (big band, small formations, chamber music, music for piano), in various contexts (jazz, classical, song, circus music, music of film, radio-TV program, children's music), or even confronting radically different worlds with, for example, writing compositions on traditional music recordings, or on recordings of birdsongs ( vocalization of birds).
