Facts have found a ripe blend of dance rhythms, synth lines, spacey guitars and layered vocals that evoke introspection and movement. Their sound is nostalgic, full of weight and immediacy, inspired by the retro sounds of Joy Division and Talking Heads, as well as modern progressive pop like Radiohead and LCD Soundsystem.
The band came together in East Vancouver as a collaboration between songwriter Sean Bletcher, piano virtuoso Sean Bayntun and music veteran Hugh Macdonald. Previous bands now defunct, they embarked in a new direction together leaving traditional guitar-driven music behind. Joined by ex-punk drummer Roland Poulin, and the texture blending multi-instrumentalist Mike Doull, they were ready to make the music they’d wanted to make for some time. And Facts was born.
Facts stands apart with their collective approach to songwriting and lively vision of performed electronica. Audiences used to seeing bands headed by one or two people are treated to a refreshingly collaborative experience, where focus often shifts between band members, and many different pieces are used. The result is a romantic, humanized incarnation of electronica that both excites and entices.
